Calendar Questions & Scientific Investigations

1. If you are using a calendar to chart weather for a week can the week start on Friday and end the following Thursday? You would then use that Thursday as the date for the DSS data. RESPONSE: Yes, this would be fine. The administration guidelines (pg. 17) indicate “Work products completed over multiple days (e.g., weekly or monthly calendars or charts) can only be submitted as one piece of evidence for the last date documented on the chart or calendar.”

2. Here is the question:
Gr. 8 Sci AGLI 12106-recognize tool(s) used for scientific investigations - Can the investigations be in total- recognize one tool for an investigation on one date and recognize another tool for a nother investigation on another date? RESPONSE: Yes, this would be fine. The examples provided with the Sample Assessment Task 12106A indicate both ways of demonstrating it; one way is to have different investigations that each require a different tool, the other way is to have different investigations that require the same tool-either way is fine.

However, it also could be asked as follows:

The plural is investigations... not the tool. Therefore, are different investigations required? Could they recognize a tool that is used for a scientific investigation on one day, and the same tool, but for a different scientific investigation on the other date. RESPONSE: Yes, this would be fine also. The examples provided with the Sample Assessment Task 12106A indicate both ways of demonstrating it; one way is to have different investigations that each require a different tool, the other way is to have different investigations that require the same tool-either way is fine.
