Questions on the DCS

Hi Kelly: First, I hope you have a wonderful holiday and a happy and healthy New Year. Here are a few questions that I have received. Thanks for your help and input.

1. Grade 6 ELA AGLI #2218. Is it necessary to indicate on a DCS the name(s of the books read? RESPONSE: We believe you are referring to AGLI22108 “compose response to literary questions about plot, character, and/or setting”. If this is the case, it is helpful to have the name(s) of the books read indicated on the DCS, but it not required. This AGLI does not indicate that there needs to be multiple books. The AGLI does have a plural for “literary questions” this plural would need to be demonstrated in the VE.
2. Grade 6 Math AGLI#13107. Are these steps on the DCS correct?
Give me a whole circle
Give me half a circle
Give me half a circle
Place half circles on top of whole circle to make a whole circle.
RESPONSE: It would be helpful it the steps were refined a little. For example: 1.) Give me a whole circle (student given a variety of objects), 2.) Give me part of a circle (student given a variety of objects), 3.) Give me part of a circle (student given a variety of objects), 4.) Place half circles on top of whole circle to make a whole circle. This is just one example of a way to do it; however, the steps that you indicated appear to be okay. The student is being assessed on identifying a whole and identifying two parts which make up a whole, it even has a final step which is to check his/her work by placing the two parts on the whole to see if the parts really make up the whole.

3. Grade 6 ELA AG LI#22108. The steps on the DCS are written in question form. Is this ok? Is brown bear a character in this book?
RESPONSE: It would be helpful it the steps were refined a little. For example: composed response to question “Is brown bear a character in this book?” This is just one example of a way to do it; however, the step that you indicated appears to be okay. The Accuracy and Independence data documented would be how the student composed his/her response to the question listed in the step (was he/she accurate in the composed response and did he/she compose the response independently).

4. Grade 8 Math AGLI#43105 Is it necessary to indicate on a DCS the name(s of the book used? RESPONSE: We believe you are referring to an ELA AGLI, but we are not sure which one. Please clarify and we will look into it.
