I am administering the Writing section of the grade 4 NYSAA and I have a question regarding an assessment task. The student wrote a sentence and drew a picture about a personal experience. Her writing is hard to decipher due to her disability but she orally dictated what she wrote and you can, when looking closely decipher the letters/symbols that represent her words for the story. I worte in my handwriting the words that she said she wrote. My concern is whether the state will accept this.
Thank you for the question. It is acceptable for the teacher to clarify what the student has written since the teacher feels an outside person would have trouble understanding the student responses. If the teacher would like he/she could include a notation on the worksheet something like, teacher writing by the student responses were done to clarify student responses due to student handwriting, but this is not absolutely necessary. Notations are not a requirement but are helpful. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
Thank you,
