I remember in the original liaison meeting that is was recommended, when creating a multiple-choice worksheet as verifying evidence, that the questions included at least 3 choices for the student to choose from. Is this a recommendation only or a requirement? I have one teacher who created multiple choice questions that require the student to choose from only two choices. Does she have to redo the work with a third choice or will it be acceptable as is?Thank you,Jamie
Hi Nanette,Thank you for the email. There is nothing in the administration guidelines that requires the number of choices presented to the student to be three choices on a multiple choice worksheet. The teacher may provide the number of choices based on his or her knowledge of what is most appropriate for the student. Please direct this person to the information presented in the NYSAA Administration Manual, Step 7 (starting on page 14), specifically the text that states: "When preparing for data collection, analyze the task by asking: *What is the expected outcome of the task? *How is the outcome of the task best documented? *What is the best way to give the student an opportunity to demonstrate his/her knowledge, skills, or understanding?" Please let us know if you have further questions.Thank you,Kelly
