I have several teachers who started their multi-step data sheets with the words, “when directed……” in each step.
For example, it may say, “When directed student will locate circle.” Although it is wordy, is this ok for scoring?
To me it is implied that we needed to ask them the question before they could reply. Probably using the phrase, “Locate the circle.” Would have been better but is what they wrote incorrect?

Hi Christine,
Thank you for the question. The step description you have provided below appear to be acceptable. As outlined in the administration manual (page 19), “Each step must be briefly described in the ‘Step’ column…”. It appears the teacher(s) have done that. However, you are correct it might be less wordy/cumbersome if the step descriptions left off the “when directed…”. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
Have a very happy and safe holiday!
Thank you,
