Can you please clarify explicit text? The definition is the glossary is vague and we have had a number of work samples with stories and articles attached and we are not sure if it is explicit or not.

Thank you for your question. Explicit text is referred to in an AGLI at Grade 6, Grade 8, and High School. It comes up in the Required Component 2: Writing, Choice Component 1: Standard 1 section of the Frameworks. The glossary indicates for Explicit Text within the term Explicit as: “Text: Explicit text reveals the meaning by direct statements. For example, at the end of a fable, the moral is often stated.” Explicit text is not necessarily informational texts only; some stories could be considered an explicit text. For Standard 1 the emphasis is on information and understanding, not specifically use of informational texts only. Explicit text is pretty broad and there are a variety of texts that would be considered explicit. Please let us know if you have further questions.
