In the Grade 8 ELA frameworks, page 4, SAT11103B .... it states completing a spider web organizer page.
My question is: Does it have to be a SPIDER-WEB organizer OR can it be
a visual organizer of another shape such as a fish ( main spine bone
is main idea and other lines(representing fish bones coming off of the
spine) would be where students write the supporting details. This is
just an example of 1 organizer I have in mind to possibly use.

Hi Kathy,
Thank you for the question. The AGLI is 11103, which states “identify the main idea and/or supporting details in informational text(s)”. The sample assessment task (11103B) provided is very specific—it states “by completing a spider-web organizer…”. The AGLI does not assess using a spider-web organizer or even include information about using an organizer at all. Teachers have flexibility with how to assess the student on his/her ability to identify the main idea and/or supporting details in an information text(s). Using a spider-web organizer is just one way. This SAT11103B can be modified to indicate a different organizer that is applicable to how the main idea and/or supporting details is assessed. The modification can include a specific organizer or it can be more generic (such as indicating “by completing a visual organizer…; instead of “by competing a spider-web organizer”). Any changes to the sample assessment task would make is comparable. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thank you,
