Math Question

Hi kelly,
I have a math question.
For AGLI # 42105 - Solve simple whole number equations involving
addition and/or subtraction, can the math problems be written vertically instead
of horizontally? I asked our math AIS teacher if it would be considered an equation,
and he said yes, but I wanted to make sure it would be acceptable.
Thanks,
Colette

Hi Colette,

Thank you for the question. It is important to stress with teachers to
adhere to the content basis for the AGLIs. Regarding the Grade 6,
mathematics AGLI 42105 "solve simple whole number equation(s) involving
addition and/or subtraction" for assessment purposes, the equation
presented to the student must be horizontal, however the student may
solve it vertically. See the Note included in the Frameworks for this
AGLI-SAT42105 on page 34. During instruction the teacher may present the
equation to the student horizontally and vertically in order to teach
the concepts, but during assessment and what is shown in the datafolio
should be the horizontal equation(s) presented to the student. Please
let us know if you have further questions.
Thank you,
