Independence Levels & Accuracy with Accommodations

Question from training session for experience personnel:

Guided Practice 3 - #4
Student was prompted to refocus on 3 of 5, therefore independence was 40%
What if the IEP indicated a testing accommodation of On-task focusing prompts... would it still impact the level of independence and result in the same independence level noted above?
(The NYSAA chart categorizing the testing accommodations appears to answer this question in the "Note" box at the top.... but it may be good to make sure that everyone is on the same page in this regard.)

Hi Teri,

Thank you for the question. On-task focusing prompts fall under the “Other” category on test accommodations and are allowable; however, they do still affect a student’s level of independence calculation. Please be sure to direct your teachers to the “Chart with Possible Test Accommodations for NYSAA” on the NYSAA website: http://emsc.nysed.gov/osa/nysaa/2008-09/nysaa-accom.pdf

Yes, you are correct for Guided Practice #3, question 4 the level of independence calculation would still be 40% (2/5) even with a test accommodation of on-task focusing prompts. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thank you,
