Hi Alicia,
We are preparing to train this week and have a question.
Do you remember the famous weather charts? The child puts up a weather symbol each day for a week.
Last year we were told, and we trained to, you must have two distinct pieces of evidence behind the DSS. Use the Friday date for evidence on each piece.
This year we need to use the LAST THREE dates of work as evidence. This would be THURSDAY and FRIDAY of the same week, or possibly WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY, not a separate piece of paper.
How do we handle this because I know teachers are very fond of their weather charts.
Tracey
Hi Tracey,
Thank you for your question. The guidelines regarding the dates of student performance documentation and multi-day work products (e.g., charts and calendars) have not changed for the 09-10 NYSAA administration. Please refer to page 17 of the administration manual, which states: "*Note: Work products completed over multiple days (e.g., weekly or monthly calendars or charts) can only be submitted as one piece of evidence for the last date documented on the chart or calendar." It is important to remind teachers that the student can work on the task other days, but data is not recorded/collected for the purposes of the assessment. In the example you stated in your email, the Friday date is the last date of student performance on the weather chart and if that is the only way the student is demonstrating their knowledge, skills, and understanding of the AGLI; then the student performance data would be taken and documented on the Data Summary Sheet for three separate weeks (each date being the Friday the student performed the assessment task). Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thank you,
