6th Gr Math 41105

question

6th grade math 41105 find the value of numeral expressions involving whole numbers
Does a mathematical expression have to be in horizontal/sentence format 2+ 3= 5 or is it acceptable for this format
2
+3
5
RESPONSE: An expression is part of an equation, so it is best if it is addressed horizontally, especially if the student is in an algebra class. But, some students may take the horizontal and make it vertical to solve [whether it is done mentally or on paper], this is okay. Since the intent of the AGLI is to ‘find the value (verb phrase) of numerical expression(s) (direct object)’ it could be presented to the student and solved either way. For this AGLI both the horizontal and vertical formats would be acceptable.
