Using Data Collection Sheet (time-segment)

Hi All,I'm in the process of reviewing the datafolios and have a question on ELA Grade 4 AGLI 12105: The student will attend to or read different genres (poetry, prose, fiction, nonfiction, drama, etc) when given choices to select from.On page 4 of the Grade 4 ELA Frameworks the suggested evidence is Data Collection (time-segment) recording the genres and student performance on the amount of time the student attends during reading time.Last year the teacher used the same AGLI with a time-segment DCS and was given a NS. Being that the the time-segment DCS is not editable, how can the teacher specify two diffent genres?Lisa

Hi,

Thank you for the question regarding indicating information on a Data Collection Sheet, specifically a Time-Segment Data Collection Sheet. As per the administration training video (Segment 3-Updates and Review for All Teachers), it is possible for a teacher to provide a notation on a Data Collection Sheet itself. The notation would help an outside person understand how the activity took place and how the student performance data was collected by indicating which segments apply to which genres on the Time Segment Data Collection Sheet. One example would be, indicating/writing next to each segment segment 1 and 2 poetry and segment 3, 4, and 5 fiction-this would indicate that the activity occured during a single session on a single date with two different types of genres being attended to or read with time segment data recorded for each. Another option that a teacher has is to create their own Data Collection Sheet. This information is outlined on page 20 of the 2008-09 Administration Manual. Please let us know if you have further questions.

Thank you,
Kelly
