Kelly,
I have 2 math questions from reviews. ANSWERS ARE IN CAPS.
6th Grade Math AGLI 13107 and same SAT. Sample wokr product wording is
very confusing. But the teacher has a work sheet with directions Paste
the whole shape and the parts under the correct shape. There is a whole
circle, triangle and square on the worksheet. The student is to find
the correct whole shape and parts of the shape and paste it under the
correct shape on the paper from a mix of the 3 shapes and parts.
Question - is the shape on the paper considered a prompt? RESPONSE: THE
SHAPE ON THE PAPER WOULD BE CONSIDERED A PROMPT--BECAUSE THE STUDENT IS
NOT BEING ASSESSED ON IDENTIFYING WHICH OF THE REPONSE CHOICES IS A
WHOLE OBJECT, THE STUDENT IS ONLY MATCHING. THE SHAPE ON THE WORKSHEET
SHOULD BE REMOVED AND IT COULD BE MODIFIED TO INDICATE "PASTE WHOLE
OBJECT HERE" WITH A BOX OR LINE FOR THE STUDENT TO PASTE THE WHOLE
OBJECT HE/SHE IDENTIFIED IN/ON AND THEN UNDERNEATH THAT PART OF THE
WORKSHEET THE DIRECTIONS COULD STATE "PASTE THE PARTS FOR THE WHOLE
OBJECT HERE" WITH SPACE FOR THE PARTS. THE DIRECTIONS COULD ALSO STATE
THE SPECIFIC WHOLE OBJECT SUCH AS, "PASTE THE WHOLE TRIANGLE HERE"; BUT
THAT GETS INTO THE STUDENT IDENTIFYING THE SHAPE AND IF THE SHAPE IS
WHOLE (THIS WOULD BE FINE B/C THE TEACHER CAN CHOSE TO DO MORE THAT JUST
WHAT IS STATED IN THE ASSESSMENT TASK, JUST NOT LESS).
12th Grade Math AGLI 41106 and same SAT. Teacher has a worksheet with a
key at the top that has the symbols and their meaning (= equal to, etc),
and sets of 2 numerals to put the correct symbol in between. In this
case, the key at the top is not a prompt correct? RESPONSE: BASED ON THE
INFORMATION YOU HAVE PROVIDED HERE, YOU ARE CORRECT-THE INFORMATION AT
THE TOP WHICH INDICATES THE SYMBOL AND THE MEANING IS NOT CONSIDERED A
PROMPT. THE STUDENT IS STILL BEING ASSESSED ON HIS/HER ABILTY TO
DETERMINE THE VALUE OF THE NUMERALS AND THEN PLACE THE APPROPRIATE
SYMBOL BETWEEN THE TWO.
Thanks,
Jane
