Good morning Kelly,
HS math AGLI 42204: solve one step verbal/written problems using one or more strategies.
The teacher did not use the sample task. She wrote the task to say: the student will solve one step written problems using one or more strategies.
The work sheet shows the student solving five written math problems, but the computation is not written in the form of equations. They are vertical computation problems.
The question is, since the sample task (that the teacher did not choose) reads: the student will solve simple real life problems involving a one step equation using one or more strategies and the choice component band is equations and inequalities, is it okay to have the student solve the computation vertically since the AGLI doesn’t not use the word equation? Regis
Hi Regis,
Thank you for the question. The intent of AGLI 42204 is to solve one-step verbal or written problems and does not have to include “equations” like in the Sample Assessment Task. Teachers always have the option of modifying the Sample Assessment Tasks or writing an original task. Given the information that you have provided it appears that the original task the teacher wrote for AGLI 42204 connects as it uses the verb/verb phrase and direct object from the AGLI. Also, as indicated in a previous email to the field the student may use a variety of strategies to solve the problem and this could include completing the computation vertically as opposed to horizontally. Please let us know if you have further questions..
Thank you,
