Word Banks

Recently, you answered a question saying word or icon banks were okay as long as they included distractors. What happens if a bank does not include distractors?

Best regards,
Elaine

Thank you for the follow-up question. For the most part word banks are fine if this is appropriate for the student. Not all word banks (particularly commercial-type worksheets) contain distracters, this is OK. The student still needs to understand which word is the correct response for a particular item. Having distracters in a word bank is good, but not a requirement. For example, a worksheet that asks the student to identify three continents (say, South America, Africa, and Australia) and the word bank includes those three responses; if the student puts South America on Africa then both South America and Africa will end up being wrong. The word bank is not guiding the student or prompting them to obtain the correct answer. Hope this helps clarify.

Thanks again for the follow-up. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thank you,
Kelly
